Shea Unti

Shea Unti is a seasoned maritime professional (re)-turned tech executive who has spent over a decade navigating both high-seas adventures and high-growth startups. A USCG 100-Ton Master Captain and RYA Yachtmaster, Shea’s career on the water spans more than 10 years of professional skippering and vessel management across the globe.

His maritime resume reads like an international chart plot. Shea spent years working globally with The Yacht Week, commanding flotillas and managing complex logistics in some of the world's most scenic waters. After his time with The Yacht Week, he transitioned to the world of luxury superyachts working as Captain or Crew depending on the vessel on yachts throughout Europe. This hands-on operational grit translated directly into the world of entrepreneurship when he stepped off the decks and back into the classroom for his Masters in Entrepreneurship, at the University of Washington in Seattle. While acclimating to land life he got connected with Boatsetter, getting hired as their first GM back in 2019. Eventually he became the VP of operations overseeing all; supply, insurance, customer support, and operations. Simultaneously Shea co-founded and ran Ahoy Rentals, a successful boat rental business based in Seattle, Washington.

After years of managing salt, steel, and logistical headaches on the water, Shea applied his deep domain expertise more specifically into the marine insurance worlds. He realized that the marine industry was ripe for modern, frictionless evolution when it comes to use based insurance. Today, he leverages that unique blend of real-world captaincy and operational tech strategy as the CEO of Buoy, where he is rewriting the script on marine insurance and technology. He lives in Seattle, where he spends his weekends captaining trips or cruising the lake with family, friends and his dog Rainier.
